Cigar Box Gutairs - Talk + Performance

Forrester Gallery and Mahika Kai Mahika Toi are hosting an evening of musical creativity and performance in the new Pouākai atrium. This free Ōamaru gallery event explores handmade instruments, sound, storytelling, and the connection between music and art.

Eric Shepard will share his cigar box guitars, transforming a humble folk instrument into both a professional musical tool and a crafted artwork. Matt Bokser and Gary Shirley will also discuss the process of creating their own stomp box design, an instrument used to add a percussive beat. Alongside the talks, live musical performances will bring the instruments to life throughout the evening.
