Matariki Dawn Hautapu Ceremony

Te Aitarakihi invites the community to gather for a special Dawn Hautapu Ceremony at Te Aitarakihi Marae-ā-Iwi, marking Matariki with reflection, remembrance, connection, and shared kai. As the stars of Matariki rise, this early morning gathering will honour those who have passed, acknowledge the present, and create space to set intentions for the year ahead.

Following the Hautapu, there will be a special hanging of photographs in the wharenui before everyone comes together to share hākari. The hākari menu will include boil up, savoury mince, porridge, toast, and cereals. Food koha that complements the breakfast menu is warmly appreciated, and monetary koha is also welcomed.
