Planting Day
Planting Day
Makotukutuku Ancient Cape Wanbrow and Waitaki Forest and Bird are holding their third planting working bee of the year at Lookout Point in Ōamaru. So far, volunteers have helped plant 650 native plants as part of the ongoing restoration project, with the aim of bringing that number to more than 900 at this next planting day. The project is gathering momentum, with locals coming together to help care for this special coastal place and support more native planting at the Cape.
Meet at the Ōamaru lookout point, accessed via Tamar Street, for a hands-on community planting event. Holes will be pre-drilled, and there will be a range of jobs available, from lighter tasks such as delivering plants and collecting pots through to digging, grubbing, and planting. Please bring gardening gloves, trowels, spades, grubbers, safe footwear, and suitable clothing. Some gloves will be available, and tasks can be matched to different abilities. Message the organisers if you are planning to join so they know how many plants and protectors to bring.
